Manchester United have revealed the location of their proposed new 100,000-seat stadium.

The ground will sit approximately 350 meters north-west of Old Trafford stadium, although the future of the current stadium has yet to be decided.

Two weeks ago, the club announced that they had acquired a large site for the stadium, which will be the largest in the UK.

Man Utd have now revealed more about the regeneration of the Trafford Wharfside area – the area surrounding the club’s current home – on the basis of a new Wharfside Masterplan.

It is planned to become a year-round center for sports and entertainment and the construction of thousands of new homes. It will be accompanied by improved public transport links, as well as opportunities for walking and cycling.

The plan needs to be approved by Trafford Council, which is expected to happen on July 20. If they do, there will be an eight-week consultation period from July 28 to September 22, with events all over the place for people to see the masterplan and express their views.

Among the latest releases were images of what the new Trafford Wharfside could look like, although the club added that these were not final and could change.

United have spent 115 years at Old Trafford, which currently holds around 74,000 spectators, and are expected to continue playing at Old Trafford while the new stadium is being built.

The new stadium, called ‘New Trafford’ in the brief, will have an umbrella design which, according to its architects, will harvest solar energy and rainwater. It will take five years to build.

It will also include three pillars that will make it visible from 40km away.

On the other hand, United believe that the new stadium will be visible, on a clear day, from ‘the edge of Liverpool’.
