Gilberto Mora and Keylor Navas join Messi and De Paul amid the biggest absences of MLS vs. Liga MX All-Star Game
I MLS vs. Liga MX All Star Game is just around the corner, promising a marquee show featuring top talent from both the American and Mexican top flight. However, the event took another star-power hit, as Gilberto Mora and Keylor Navas have added their names to an already impressive list of high-profile absentees Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul.
Liga MX released its first roster a few weeks ago with both Navas and Mora in the squad. However, in an official roster update released on Monday, July 27, the league confirmed a few notable changes, officially scratching the Costa Rican icon and Mexican prodigy off the final roster.
In Keylor Navas‘ case, Pumas goalkeeper UNAM will not go to Charlotte after suffering a little from a knee problem that persisted at the start of the Apertura 2026 campaign. Although the injury is not considered serious, the Mexico City team chose not to put their star at risk with the season of Liga MX and the Leagues Cup in high gear. Carlos Moreno of Club Pachuca was called up in his place.
About Gilberto Mora, The official reason for his omission was not disclosed by the two Liga MX or his club, Club Tijuana. However, the 17-year-old continues his time with the Xolos following a busy World Cup campaign with the Mexican national team and a consecutive holiday, prioritizing long-term fitness ahead of next season.
The Inter Miami duo will also miss the All-Star clash
This annual summer show has built momentum in recent years thanks to both teams attracting top-level, world-class talent. However, Liga MX will now be without Mora, Navas, and Armando”La HormigaGonzález, while MLS will be losing its biggest draw in Lionel Messi alongside his Inter Miami team Rodrigo De Paul.
