MLW’s Trevor Lee set for major high-stakes match against Yota Tsuji at Saturday Night SuperFight

Trevor Lee officially signed with Major League Wrestling (MLW) seven months ago and he has kept his foot on the gas pedal since stepping in between the ropes for the company.

Lee has gone toe-to-toe with some of the best MLW has to offer, including Kushida, Austin Aries and Místico, while also holding the MLW Southern Crown Championship. He broke the news with OutKick Dropkick/Fox News Digital in April and said at the time he had been waiting for a good opportunity to come his way.

Now, he’s making the most of it.

Lee will have a chance to make a statement at Saturday Night SuperFight this weekend when he steps into the ring with IWGP heavyweight champion Yota Tsuji, who is a superstar with New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

“I think it’s been going great,” Lee told OutKick Dropkick of his time with MLW so far. “I think with the last time we spoke, I probably said something along the lines of, I just want to go out there and show what I can do, and I feel like over these past few months, I’ve had the capability to do that. I think that we’re gonna be looking at even more opportunity coming this Saturday when I wrestle Yota. I mean, I couldn’t ask for a better opportunity, right? The IWGP heavyweight champion. I’m looking at this match like kind of like a job interview, right? And, what a way to, what a way to try to start it out.”

Lee was the one who called out Tsuji for this match at one of MLW’s biggest shows of the year.

Tsuji is a two-time IWGP heavyweight champion, two-time IWGP global heavyweight champion and has held the IWGP Intercontinental Championship and the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship one-time each.

The stakes are as high as they could be going into this match.

“I wanna show that I’m ready for that opportunity and if we’re gonna bring these guys in and we’re gonna highlight these guys as being the top guys that they truly are, Yota is the top of the top at New Japan,” he continued. “So, if he’s gonna come over here and he’s gonna ask for a fight, then, you know, I’m looking for an opportunity. And I told you that right the last time we spoke, that I’m just wanting opportunities and what bigger opportunity.”

Tsuji already has a cast of wrestlers gunning for his title. Most recently, it was Boltin Oleg and Kenny Omega.

Though Saturday night’s match is a non-title fight, the potential of Lee pinning Tsuji may put him among the contenders for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

OutKick Dropkick asked Lee if he’s thought about that possibility.

“One-hundred percent,” he said. “I’d love to wrestle for New Japan. I’ve never wrestled for New Japan. I’ve wrestled for a lot of companies in, in my career, but, I’ve never had the opportunity to even go to Japan and wrestle in Japan. So, what better way to step in day one to show everybody, hey, I’ve already beat the top guy here and, and I’m ready to continue to do it again.”

Lee vs. Tsuji is one of seven matches on the massive Saturday Night SuperFight card, which will feature MLW world heavyweight champion Killer Kross going up against Josh Bishop in a last man standing match for the title.
