Buoyed by an impressive continental exit during the week, Mjallby AIF are looking to end their long winless run in the Allsvenskan as they face Kalmar this weekend at the Guldfageln Arena in matchday 14.

Visitors based in Hallevik enter the game following a 3-0 win over Lincoln Red Imps On Wednesday in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the Champions League, the hosts played to a draw. In a 2-2 draw with Malmo in the Swedish top flight last week.

Mjallby secured a historic first ever Allsvenskan title last season, knocking them out in the second qualifying round of the Champions League, and their first exit from Europe’s top club competition could not have been better.

Just 18 minutes into that game against Lincoln in Hallevik, the Swedish champions took the lead through Aki Samuelsen, who completed his brace soon after, before Jacob Bergstrom sealed the win just past the half-hour mark.

While Mjallby have a comfortable chance in their continental game ahead of next week’s return leg in Gibraltar, Wednesday’s win also saw Hallevik’s side end an eight-game winless streak in all competitions, their previous success coming in the domestic cup final against Hammarby in May.

The Swedish champions, however, have endured a difficult campaign to defend the top-flight title, now going two months without a league win, with their latest run of six games without a win (D4, L2) in the competition coming a goalless draw against Vasteras last week.

That result leaves Mjallby at number 10 Allsvenskan standingsremain six points adrift in Europe, underscoring Karl Marius Aksum’s challenging campaign since stepping into the shoes of former coach Anders Torstensson, who guided the team to their historic triumph last season.

Facing a team they have beaten in each of their last five competitive meetings should however boost confidence ahead of this weekend’s trip to Hallevik’s visitors, even if the champions have won just two of their seven away games (D4, L1) in the top flight this term.

On the other hand, Kalmar have played well at home, winning four out of seven league games (D2, L1) at the Guldfageln Arena this season, with only the top two teams Hammarby (19) and Sirius (16) collecting more points at home than the Red Brothers’ tally of 14.

However, with the draw in Malmo last weekend, Toni Koskela’s side failed to get full points at home to the Hansa City for the first time in two months, as Carl Gustafsson and Charlie Rosenqvist lost twice.

The result also means that the newly-promoted side, who quickly returned to the top flight this season, have gone back to league games without a win for the first time since opening the 2026 campaign on a four-match winless run.

Currently in 12th place and four points above the relegation zone, Kalmar know that getting a result this weekend will push them further out of the relegation zone, although seven defeats in their first 13 games shows the level of vulnerability few in the division have, with only top-flight Halmstads BK (nine) losing more.

Mjallby’s continental win over Lincoln appears to be injury-free, but the Allsvenskan champions will be without Timo Stavitski, who continues his recovery from a back problem he picked up in May.

Samuelsen missed a second-half penalty last time out to deny him a hat-trick, but the striker has scored in two of his last four games, with the most recent in the league coming in the Hallevik side’s last game.

Meanwhile, Bergstrom, who currently leads the team with five goals in this year’s Allsvenskan, could once again play a leading role in Aksum’s preferred 3-4-3 formation, especially after finding the net against Lincoln, although Abdoulie Manneh is still preferred in that position.

For the hosts, Rosenqvist scored his sixth league goal of the last campaign, leaving him ahead of any other Kalmar player in Sweden’s top flight in 2026, and the striker should once again lead the way for the hosts.

Charles Sagoe Jr. is likely to keep his place on the left side of the attack, the attacker serving as the club’s creative outlet after providing eight league assists this season, a number surpassed only by Djurgardens IF’s Bo Hegland (nine).

As for the injured players who are absent, Kalmar is still without striker Malcolm Stolt, who is still recovering from a thigh injury that has kept him out of action since February.

Mjallby have enjoyed recent dominance in the game, having won the last three league games away to Kalmar, and while they go into this match buoyed by their continental success in midweek, the away team’s Allsvenskan leaves room for concern.

The hosts have been strong at the Guldfageln Arena, going into this weekend unbeaten in their last five top-floor games, so balancing the visitors’ excellent record against the home team’s impressive home run suggests a high-scoring draw is on the cards.
