LeBron James’ agent says the former Lakers star is ‘in no rush’ to pick a new team
LeBron James’ agent Rich Paul says there is no time for the NBA star to decide where he will play next season, stressing that the four-time champion will only make a choice when he is ready.
Speaking on a recent episode of the “Game Over” podcast with Max Kellerman, the Klutch Sports founder dismissed suggestions that James is intentionally delaying his free agency decision.
“We will not rush,” said Paul.
“It’s his choice and if he chooses, he will.”
James entered free agency earlier this month after informing the Los Angeles Lakers that he would not return for the 2026-27 season, ending his eight-year tenure with the franchise.
The Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat are among the teams interested in signing the 41-year-old player, while three Eastern Conference clubs are reportedly leading the race.
Paul said interested parties continued to investigate but insisted there was nothing more to do.
“We’ve had a few people call and say, ‘Hey Rich, is there anything else we should be doing?'” he said.
“My answer is, ‘No.
The NBA is desperate for James to decide
NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, recently joked that he wanted James to announce his decision so the league could complete its plan, but Paul said he reminded Silver that the decision rests solely with his client.
“I saw Adam in New York and we talked about it,” said Paul.
“It’s still his will. If he doesn’t really know, you can’t rush.”
Paul also rejected the idea that James is extending the advertising production process, differentiating the situation from the highly publicized television special “Decision” in 2010, when James announced the move from Cleveland to Miami.
“We are not doing this for attention and spectacle,” said Paul.
“It’s not about a ‘decision’ or anything like that. He’s got his own business to run. We’re not going to let someone else decide if he’s going to make that decision.”
When Kellerman suggested that some fans believed James was enjoying the attention surrounding his future, Paul dismissed the claim.
“It’s very low-hanging fruit if you don’t have experience,” he said.
Paul also refused to reveal that Jacob depended on any place he was going to.
“I have nothing to say,” he said.
He added that speculation that an announcement is imminent should be viewed with caution.
“These people know nothing,” said Paul.
“I don’t know when you’re going to be elected, it could be 48 seconds from now. It could be 48 minutes. You can’t make someone know something they don’t know.”
