Nations Championship: Jamie George’s England captains unchanged for Argentina game | Rugby Union News

Jamie George will captain England in an unchanged XV to face Argentina in the Nations Championship as players continue to avoid wearing national shirts in Buenos Aires.

George is the captain of the team and will win his 113th England cap, moving into fourth place on the list of most capped players for England.

Head coach Steve Borthwick has made two changes to the substitutes, Ben Spencer and Emmanuel Iyogun who entered the bench sitting on the bench in matchday 23.

Ellis Genge and Ollie Chessum have been named co-captains for the clash in Santiago del Estero (kick-off 8.10pm BST).

“We are excited about the challenge of playing Los Pumas in Santiago del Estero,” said Borthwick.

“We are expecting a great atmosphere with passionate home support. It promises to be a great event, and one that the players are excited to welcome.”

The group was in Buenos Aires during Wednesday’s FIFA World Cup semi-final between England and Argentina.

The team wore England jerseys to support the football team in last Saturday’s quarter-final against Norway, but did so in Liverpool after defeating Fiji earlier in the day.

“I think, if we remember where we are and who we’re playing, we’ve been sensible not to wear our English shirts,” said key Alex Coles. The Telegraph.

“We got them all out of Liverpool and we got a better reception than we would have here.

“I really love my football. I think there’s a good team of us who love it. We watched the last game after our game at the weekend, in a pub in Liverpool, and it was cool. Everyone was very happy.

“We’re very proud to represent our rugby-playing country, and I think that translates into a real joy in watching England in any game, and the World Cup fever – it’s like no other in football, is it?

“It captures the attention of the world in a way that no other sport can. It’s really special, and I think it’s the sport I grew up watching first before rugby and cricket, football was something I was passionate about.”
