Newcastle transfer news: Liverpool’s £42.5m target confirmed as latest signing to replace Anthony Gordon

Newcastle United have announced the signing of versatile striker Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim.

The 20-year-old has penned a long-term contract with the Magpies and arrives for an undisclosed fee, believed to be €50m (£42.5m).

Toure becomes Newcastle’s second big signing in the following summer transfer window £24m addition of goalkeeper Ewen Jaouenanother 20-year-old who arrived officially from Reims earlier this month.

Liverpool was there given strong interest in Tourewhile both Manchester United and Arsenal were said to be monitor the attacker earlier this year.

However, Newcastle have won the race for Toure, who was signed more than a month after Anthony Gordon’s £69m move from Barcelona was confirmed.

Toure is an “exciting young talent” with a really high ceiling

Head coach Eddie Howe added: “We are delighted to have been able to bring Bazoumana to Newcastle United. He has shown his ability to play in Europe’s top leagues during his time in Germany and has gained some really good experience with his national team, particularly at this summer’s World Cup.

“We feel like he’s a player with a very high ceiling – he’s someone we believe can give us something different. And he has a lot of potential to open up and we’re looking forward to working with him.”

Who is new Newcastle signing Bazoumana Toure?

Born in Bouake, Ivory Coast, Toure began his professional career in his native country with top Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas, progressing through the club’s academy before winning the league title in his first season with the senior club.

He then moved to Sweden in early 2024 to join Hammarby IF where he made several eye-catching appearances as a regular, scoring eight goals in 23 appearances.

Toure was quickly snapped up by Hoffenheim in February 2025 and developed into a key player for the German club, scoring five goals and registering 12 assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances last season.

Primarily a left-footed striker who can operate on the right or as a central midfielder, Toure has been capped nine times by the Ivory Coast and represented his country in three of the four matches at the 2026 World Cup as they reached the round of 32.
